In what can only be described as great news for both sufferers of Celiac Disease and anyone who hates people who insist they can’t eat gluten while downing an entire plate of spaghetti, science appears to be on the verge of delivering us an actual pill that will allow those with Celiac to eat gluten.

Via Quartz’s Deena Shanker, a team of scientists at the University of Alberta has gleaned a supplement from chicken egg yolks which apparently hinders the absorption of gliadin, a part of gluten that Celiacs cannot digest. I can’t even pretend I fully understand what that sentence means, but hey, if it works, it works (except for those who have Celiac Disease AND an egg allergy, a group with luck so bad even Charlie Brown pities them). The University of Alberta team will begin efficacy trials soon and hopes to have the supplement available to the public within the next few years.

I know many of you are queuing up snarky remarks, but bear in mind that this pill was created for actual sufferers of Celiac Disease, who deserve no scorn whatsoever. If this pill does actually allow Celiac sufferers to achieve the winning combo of a) eating pizza and b) not dying, I’m sure many of them will be jumping for joy. It remains to be seen what new trend the “I can’t have gluten but bring me more bread” idiots will glom onto if and when this becomes available to the general public, though. Only time will tell.
