"And Now It's a Fucking Froyo Place": Tracking New York's Downfall

A new tumblr in New York City is devoted entirely to tracking places that used to be other business venues…and are now fucking froyo places.

The tumblr, appropriately titled “…and now it’s a fucking froyo place,” with the subtitle “Tracking New York’s downfall,” isn’t focused on any one type of business the froyo places used to be; you’ve got restaurants, florist shops, bodegas, shoe stores, and more. Basically, the only thing they have in common is that people looked at all of them and went “what this neighborhood really needs is another purveyor of ice cream-like substance topped with fruit bits just good enough that they don’t notice how terrible the product under them is.”

The tumblr hasn’t been going for very long, and it’s not a patch on Someone Ate This, but it’s entertaining to see New Yorkers get fed up with the creeping monochrome banality of seeing the same damn store with the same damn product pop up over and over and over. I’ve been more than a little critical of New York in the past, but I have to respect the fact that in most other cities, people just shrug when trends like this take hold.
