Taco Bell's Next Big Product Release is Apparently a Frito Taco

In Depth

Well, that was pretty much inevitable. Taco Bell apparently made an oopsie and released a slide in a presentation to investors that appears to be a Frito Taco similar to their Doritos Locos Tacos — although given their talents when it comes to clever marketing, I wouldn’t be shocked if this was a deliberate move.

The slide, via Business Insider, features images of a whole bunch of well-known menu items. In the top left corner, it appears to show a taco with unidentifiable filling* coming out of a bag of Fritos — the exact same ad construction the company used for its enormously, bafflingly successful Doritos Locos Tacos. When asked whether this was the next big product in their pipeline, Taco Bell responded with the verbal equivalent of a winky face:

When asked about the illustration, a Taco Bell spokeswoman told Business Insider, “We’re always innovating and testing new concepts.”

Fritos are, of course, owned by Frito-Lay, the company that also makes Doritos (and is in turn owned by PepsiCo). It’s also not the first time Taco Bell has experimented with Fritos in their products — nor is it the second. I have no doubt that assuming this is happening (and it almost certainly is), these tacos will be wildly successful. Maybe not as much as Doritos Locos Tacos, perhaps, but “make the taco out of that thing I shovel into my face from a bag while I watch the foosball” has proven to be a wildly successful formula for Taco Bell in America, and I can’t see that changing any time soon.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I really need to go get some Taco Bell right the hell now, because I am terrible and should feel terrible (yet strangely, I do not).

* Hahahahaha, as if the filling is ever identifiable.
