How to Make the Equal Opportunist, a Cocktail That'll Make You Say U-S-A

In Depth

Welcome to Boozinette. This is the Equal Opportunist.

  • 2 oz spiced rum
  • 1 oz habañero syrup
  • 3/4 oz pineapple juice
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 1 cherry
  • 1 American flag toothpick
  • 2 habañero peppers
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water

Remove stems from peppers and slice ‘em up. In a small saucepan, bring all ingredients to a boil. Lower heat to a simmer for 10 minutes. Strain, contain, let cool and refrigerate. Use to add a little heat to any drink accompanied by tepid conversation.

Pour all liquid ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake like an imperialist shakedown for 10-12 seconds. Fine strain into a lowball over ice. Garnish with a cherry & an American flag toothpick (made-in-China). Pairs nicely with massive debt.
