How to Make Autumn's Red Rooster, a Cocktail That Answers the Question 'What's Pumpkin Lard?'

In Depth

Welcome to Boozinette. This is Autumn’s Red Rooster.

  • 3 oz spiced rum
  • 1 1/2 oz pumpkin lard
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • boiling water
  • 2 cups canned pumpkin
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 cups sliced ginger
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

In a small saucepan bring all ingredients (except vanilla) to a boil. Stir until everything but the ginger has a smooth consistency. Lower heat to a simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain, contain, let cool, add vanilla & refrigerate. Use to sweeten the deal when bargaining with basic individuals.

Pour the rum & lard into a cherished mug. Top with boiling hot water. Garnish with a cinnamon stick, get cozy & appreciate the turning leaves for what they are. Beautiful omens of imminent darkness that usher in a bitter cold future mired in rampant consumerism.
